Chennai Super Kings (CSK)and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are suspended from the League for two years by the Supreme Court-appointed Justice R.M. Lodha Committee on Tuesday.Due to verdict on betting scandal and spot fixing that took place in IPL 2013.
To do know about the betting scandal and spot fixing that took place in IPL 2013 the supreme court appointed committee and also suspended Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj kundra from cricketing for five years who were indicted in betting activities during IPL 2013, were said to have brought the game to disrepute in addition to their betting misdemeanors.
The players who are playing in those suspended teams are free they are not be attached to a particular team of the franchise that is suspended.Justice Lodha said.”We thought that cricket is bigger than individuals and then the financial loss to players and franchises is not of significance,” he added.
Justice Lodha claimed that the two franchises stood suspended as of pronouncement, the technical ramifications of the judgement regarding the teams remain unclear. A full copy of the the report will be sent to BCCI, who then have the option of challenging the judgement with the bench that initially constituted the Lodha committee.
Justice RM Lodha said.”Conflict of interest questions have been raised, once we complete the process of interacting with all the stakeholders, we will take a view on that. That exercise is not complete. This order is confined to determining the quantum of punishment to the two individuals and the franchises”and also said.”He (Meiyappan) is found guilty of betting, his conduct affected image of BCCI, the (T20) league and the game,” in press conference on Tuesday.
Justice RM Lodha added that.”We have interacted with 40-45 people, we are yet to meet a few others. Once that is done we will decide what guidelines are to be given. Our idea is to get inputs from all stakeholders. It is not confined to cricket administrators and politicians,”
Rajasthan Royals(RR) and Chennai Super Kings(CSK) suspended from IPL for 2 years.Meiyappan declared ineligible for participation in any cricket activities for 5 years.Raj Kundra placed bets through a known punter, has been found guilty of misconduct.Similar sanctions have also been imposed on Raj Kundra, co owner of Rajasthan Royals for betting.Gurunath Meiyappan was involved in betting, it was his bad luck that he made no profits.Gurunath Meiyappan suspended for life from being involved in activities related to any type of cricket matches.Meiyappan suffered Rs 60 lakh loss in bets.Gurunath Meiyappan violated basic rules of the BCCI.The fact that Meiyappan was integral part of CSK,he ought not to have indulged in corrupt practices.Any person who has true passion for the game will never be involved in betting.
