The auction date for IPL 2020 has been announced and the management have started brainstorming over the team compositions. Though all the teams have a set core, they always look to release some players and buy some new players in order to build a competitive side for the upcoming season.

Kolkata Knight Riders have been a fierce side over the last few seasons. They won the IPL twice under the captainship of Gautam Gambhir, however, with Gautam Gambhur out of game, they have been led by Dinesh Karthik since 2018 season. In the 2019 season, KKR finished on 5th position, just failing to qualify for the playoffs.

With clear aims to do better this season, Kolkata might want to do away with a few players and look for better replacements for them. In this article, we have talked about 3 probable players, which could be released by Kolkata Knight Riders this year ahead of the IPL auctions, which are scheduled for 19th December.

  1. Carlos Brathwaite : Talking of Carlos, everyone gets reminded of his innings in the final of world T20 in 2016, where he hit four continuous sixes on the four balls of 20th over to win title for his team. However, he has failed to repeat any such heroics for his IPL team.

Carlos was bought by KKR for whooping 5 crore INR, however, he failed to impress the team management in the limited opportunities he got. In the two matches he played last season, Brathwaite could just score 11 runs without any wicket. For sure, the expectations were a lot more from West Indian and the team management could release him to make way for another all rounder.

2. Rinku Singh : The young left hand batsman was considered to be the next big thing in Indian cricketing circuit when he was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for 80 Lakh INR in 2018. However, he has failed to live upto the expectations.

In 5 matches that he played last season for KKR, he could just score 37 runs, putting a lot of pressure on team management to find a replacement. Chances are strong that he will be released by the franchisee and we could see him going into the auctions again when the franchisees meet in Kolkata on 19th December. Indian bookmakers have also predicted him being available for the auctions.

3. Harry Gurney : The left arm fast bowler from England also had everyone excited when was signed by KKR for 75 lakhs in last year’s auction. He did his IPL journey with a man of the match award against Rajasthan Royal, however, his performance went down in the matches he played post that.

In total, he played eight matches in the tournament and could grab just 7 wickets. He also gave runs at an economy rate of 8.5 runs per over and surely could not impress the team management including the captain. He could also be on the verge of a release at the upcoming IPL 2020 auctions.
