No matter what the companies of today claim, the concept of bezel-less displays was brought into the smartphone market years earlier by a company named Sharp, when they launched the Sharp Aquos smartphone which nearly had a bezel-less display. Though both, the company and the smartphone couldn’t keep up with the demands and technological requirements in a smartphone, it looks like the company is coming back to life. No, it isn’t the famous Pink Floyd song, but rather a smartphone that takes the bezel-less display to another level. Behold, the Sharp Aquos S2. Don’t believe us? Read on to find out more.

Recently, Sharp was acquired by Foxconn, and the new Sharp Aquos S2 seems to be the baby mentored by Foxconn. While the concept of bezel-less display was brought about by Samsung and Xiaomi recently, Sharp had already released a smartphone years ago that revolved around the same concept, more body to screen ratio. But what seems to be a disappointing move for now is that the Aquos S2 will be limited to the Chinese smartphone market.

Specifications

The Sharp Aquos S2, which has been launched in the Chinese smartphone market has some pretty interesting features, like the extremely thin bezels and has an edge-less display with a body to screen ratio of 87.5 per cent. The display on the Sharp Aquos S2 is the company’s Free Form Display (FFD) technology that is built around a 5.5-inch display with a screen resolution of 2040×1080 pixels. According to the company, the Aquos S2 has a tri-bezel design where the top and sides come with almost minimal bezels. However, the bottom of the smartphone is much like the one we’ve seen on the Xiaomi Mi Mix, with a much bigger bezel.  The body of the smartphone is built out of metal and glass design.

Now, talking about the specifications on the inside, the Sharp Aquos S2 comes with the latest snapdragon processor. According to the company, the Sharp Aquos S2 will be made available with two processor variants, which would include a Snapdragon 630 processor and a Snapdragon 660 processor. The variant that will be powered by the Snapdragon 630 chipset will come coupled with 4GB of RAM and will offer 64Gb of internal storage. The one with the Snapdragon 660 chipset on the other hand will come with 6GB of RAM and will offer 128GB of internal storage. Both the chipset variants will offer additional storage options that can be expanded using the microSD card slot.

Other features in the Aquos S2 include a decent 3,020mAh battery that will come with Quick Charge 3.0, powered by Android 7.1 Nougat with the SharpSmileUX over the OS. The cameras on the smartphone include a 12MP primary sensor coupled with an 8MP sensor for depth information. The smartphone also offers dual-LED flash on the rear, and records 4K videos @ 30fps. The camera on the front is n 8MP sensor. The smartphone also offers fingerprint sensor.

Pricing

Now coming to the most important part of it all, the pricing, the Sharp Aquos S2 will come with a price tag of 2488 Yuan (approximately Rs. 23,753) for the low spec’d variant and 3499 Yuan (Rs. 33,233) for the higher end. The sale for the same will commence in China alone, starting on the August 14th.
