Background of the bounty on Deepika, Bhansali : Film Padmavati has been in controversies since its inception. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, known for his out of the way style of making films has been targeted ever since he started making the film. Reportedly, the film includes scenes which has offended a certain caste of people in india. And thus, they have been giving death threats to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his team.
The film, which is all set to get released on 1st December, 2018 has been targeted all across the country by a certain caste of people for wrongly portraying Padmavati, an iconic character in the film. Padmavati, who is played by Deepika Padukone has been showed as a sensual character in the movie had a totally different character in real life, according to the people offending the movie.
Over all the fuss, even pleas were made in the supreme court of india to ban the release of Padmavati. But supreme court refused to ban the movie which has even more agitated the people defying its release.
Now due to that, clouds of uncertainty lie over the release of Padmavati. According to authorities, there will be a delay over the release of Padmavati until all the issues are not resolved. Due to this, the movie makers are tensed, including the films cast. Padmavati, which has been a hard work of Sanjay Leela Bhansali tells about how Rani Padmavati rebelled against Afghan Ruler, Allaudin Khilji to save the pride of Chittaud.
According to Wikipedia and the local authorities “There were allegations from groups such as the Shri Rajput Karni Sena claiming that the film is depicting inaccurate facts, with activists vandalizing the sets of the film. However, a sting operation conducted by an Indian news channel showed that the activists had planted the controversies in order to extort money from the filmmakers.”
But, bounty on Bhansali and Deepika?
Yes, bounty. According to sources, another prominent opposer, Meerut-based Sarv Bhahmin Mahasabha, had shot off a petition with blood to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and has offered Rs.5 crore to anyone who brings them the heads of Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This is as real as much as it sounds ridiculous.
“Anyone who brings the head of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone will be rewarded with Rs 5 crore. Rani Ma Padmavati had sacrificed her life with 12,000 other women in mass immolation (Jauhar), and Bhansali has raised a question on her courage by showing her in bad light in his film. This is unacceptable. Either both of them should leave the country or get ready to be beheaded,” Thakur Abhishek Som, national president of Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Yuva Mahasabha, said this to the Times of India.
Before this the Shri Rajput Karni Sena had already threatened Deepika Padukone saying that they would chop off her nose just as Lord Laxman chopped Surpanakha’s for wrongly portraying Padmavati. This is a very unethical way of treating a human being, especially a woman. Even before this, various sets of the film were burnt down by the above mentioned groups to show there agitation over the release of the film.
Even though, Sanjay Leela Bhansali may have wrongly portrayed Padmavati, this is not a way to conduct with the film makers and the ones acting in the film. The main purpose of a film is to entertain the audience and Sanjay Leela Bhansali has done this in an exceptional manner in the past. So considering that, we Indians should really consider ourselves over our temper. Having said so, again the question arises, “Are we being intolerant?”.
