Two Women from IIT Madras Campus committed suicide in a span of one hour. Two different incidents on Wednesday evening had occurred, of which one was a woman, who had done The Post-Doctoral research scholar and other was the wife of an assistant professor of the educational institution.
Two Women Commit Suicide at IIT Madras Campus : Police officials said that Vijaya Lakshmi wife of the assistant professor Ganeshan was found hanging in her quarters.She was 47 years old. An hour later Maheshwari a 34 years lady, pursuing post-doctoral research was found hanging in the hostel. Her friends found her hanging and later on informed the police.
There were two different reasons which lead to the death of that woman.Vijaya Lakshmi wife of the professor was worrying about her elder son’s health and tried to commit suicide earlier.Her friends said that Maheshwari was feeling alone and depressed as her husband was not visiting him at the hostel.
Two cases were registered by The Kottupuram police under CrPc 174 and the investigation has been initiated.
In an official statement,IIT Madras said that the institute was deeply saddened by those 2 suicides. “The institute extends its deep felt condolences to the family and the near and dear ones of the scholar for the unfortunate, untimely and devastating loss,” the statement read by the Officials from the Institution.
