The saddening demise of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa made the entire state come to a standstill , lakhs of her admirers and supporters thronged at the Chennai’s Rajaji Hall to have last glimpse of their “Amma”. And the eminent political personalities of India also paid their homage to Selvi Jayalalithaa today.
She has been cremated at Chennai’s Marina Beach at 4:30pm today. During this the Police Security was tightened up to avoid clash and riots of people and the ritual proceedings went smoothly.
Let us now look at her life time line right from her birth till the moment when she breath her last at the Apollo Hospital , Chennai :
BIRTHDAY :
She was born on February 24 , 1948 in Melukote town in the Mysuru District of Karnataka. Her parent’s names were Vedavalli & Jayaraman.
REAL NAME :
She was born in an orthodox Brahmin family. Her family named her as Komalavalli but later she changed her name to Jayalalithaa and remained as her screen name in the Film Industry.
EARLY FILM CAREER:
She first started her acting career when she was a child in the year 1961. She actually debuted into film industry with an English Movie named Epistle. So she had worked in English , Hindi and Kannada movies as a child artist.

LEAD STAR IN FILMS:
She worked as a lead actress for the 1st time when she was just 15 year old in a Knnada movie named ‘Chinnada Gombe’ which means ‘Golden Doll’.
WHEN THEY MET :
Here I’m referring ‘they’ to Jayalalithaa and MG Ramachandran (MGR) . They were casted opposite to each other 1st time in a Tamil film named Aadai` which means White Dress and it turned out to be major block buster.
Again after this , probably in the same year , they worked together. MG Ramachandran who was informally known as MGR , was a former Tamil nadu Chief Minister and also Jayalalithaa’s political mentor.
Their partnership lasted for 2 decades , be it in films or politics , they were turning coal into gold before the death of MGR in 1987.
JAYA BIDS GOOD BYE TO FILMS:
She left her film career in the year 1980 , where she acted in her last Tamil movie named ‘Nahiyai Thedi Vandha Kadal’ which means ‘Where Ocean Seeks A River’.
In 1980, she acted in her last Tamil movie, Nadhiyai Thedi Vandha Kadal (Where ocean seeks a river).
She left her amazing journey in the film arena to join politics. So there are around 300 films of various languages to her credit.

JAYA ENTERS POLITICAL WORLD:
She joined the AIADMK Party Member in the year 1982. This was her first step in the world of politics , and like her film career , her debut in the political world was also a major hit.
With her very 1st Public appearance and speech she impressed everyone. Then she went on to become the Rajya Sabha member in the year 1989. And in the same year , MGR was hospitalised in the US due to a stroke attack.
As MGR was ill and could not be present during the party campaigns and meetings , so Jaya approached the then PM Rajiv Gandhi with a request to make her the then Chief Minister.
The rift between Jayalalitha and AIADMK was evident. The supremo of AIADMK made Jayalilathaa step down from key positions. But whatever the circumstances were Jayalalithaa played a major role in making AIADMK win both Assembly and Lok Sabha Polls.
JAYA’S POLITICAL LIFE WITHOUT MGR :
When MGR died in 1987 , then his wife Janaki was crowned as the CM of Tamil Nadu in 1988. And this made the party to broke into two groups , one which was headed by Janaki herself and other by Jaya.
Jaya was being sidelined when Janaki ruled for just 21 days as after it there was President’s rule imposed in Tamil Nadu.
JAYA’S DOMINANCE IN AIADMK STARTS:
In 1989 when AIADMK lost election to the DMK due to factional wars , here is when Janaki decided to resign and this cleared the way for Jayalalithaa to become the head of AIADMK.

JAYALALITHAA AS CM OF TAMIL NADU:
She became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in the year 1991 when her party AIADMK heavily defeated the DMK Party. During her Chief Minister tenure she was involved in several corruption cases which acted as a dent to the Party’s reputation.
CORRUPTION CHARGES & JAIL TERM:
In the year 1996 , Jaya was arrested in a corruption feud and was sent to jail for almost a month.
SHE MAKES A COMEBACK :
Then she was back in the Party in the year 2001 where AIADMK won the elections under her leadership. Though she did not contest elections as her name was pending in 12 corruption related cases , still the party won the elections defeating the DMK again.
Yet again she became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. But due to the order of apex court she had to step down from the post , then again in 2003 , when Madras high Court cleared her name from few of the cases , she contested the election only to become the CM again.
DEFEAT IN 2006:
Amma – as she widely known as lost the elections to rival party DMK . But Jaya became 3rd time lucky when she was made as the CM of Tamil Nadu in 2011.
But the court cases were haunting Jaya , as they made a comeback in her life in 2014 where she was convicted in disproportionate assets case.
She spent a month in jail and during her absence , a staunch loyalist of her O.Panneerselvam was made the CM for time being.
ALL CHARGES CLEARED :
Fortunately Amma got her name cleared from all the alleged cases including the disproportionate assets case in the year 2015.
GOD LIKE STATUS IN KERALA :
In 2016 , AIADMK again won the elections under her guidance and leadership. Now making her the idol and sole admiration to lakhs of her supporters and admirers. She was now enjoying God like status in Kerala.

HEALTH ISSUES :
SEPTEMBER :
Even earlier she have had minor health issues , but it turned fatal on September 22 , 2016 where she was admitted in Apollo Hospitals , Chennai to be treated for fever and dehydration.
OCTOBER:
In this month , the AIADMK issued an official statement saying that Amma was recovering and had been doing fine and would soon join office and resume her work.
NOVEMBER :
However she resumed her work despite of some major issues which were sorted out . And was again admitted in Apollo Hospitals Chennai where she was undergoing some surgeries.
DECEMBER :
She came back only to have a cardiac arrest on December 4 , 2016 , that is the day where she was struggling with her ailments. Doctors announced that Amma’s health is deteriorating despite of best efforts by the team of specialists. And she breathed her last on December 5 , 2016 at 11:15 pm.
