RBI appoints US University Professor Viral V. Acharya As Its 4th Deputy Governor!

    The ruling government has appointed Viral V. Acharya , a Professor of Economics at the New York University as one of the four deputy governor of the Central Bank for serving a term of 3 years according to the statement released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday.

    The RBI had a vacancy for the post of Deputy Governor after it promoted Urjit Patel to the post of Governor earlier this year. The statement released by the RBI did not mention to which portfolio Mr. Acharya would be assigned to.

    Urjit Patel had headed this prestigious monetary policy which is now being seen by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Govenor , R.Gandhi as a part of widened remit.

    Hence applications were invited for the post of Deputy Governor from potential candidates and an advertisement for the same was put on September 29 with a deadline to send applications till October 21.

    And it may be mentioned here that only those candidates are eligible for the post of Dy. Governor who are below 60 years of age and must have at least 25 years of rich experience in Public Administration  which also includes Secretary level posting in the Government of India or in Indian or any International Public Financial Institutions.

    Talking about Viral V Acharya , he teaches at the Stern School of Business in the New York University and according to his esteemed resume , he has research interests in corporate finances , regulation of banks , asset pricing and credit risk.His expertise and areas of interest are definitely what is needed in the hour of demonetisation.
