Nokia phones may soon make a dramatic comeback in the global telecommunication market in partnership with HMD global to bring about the new 5G technology. There was an announcement earlier in March, where Nokia was planning to bring about 5G internet speed technology in collaboration with BSNL and Airtel. They plan to accelerate the development of a %G ecosystem and look to have extreme high speed wireless broadband with ultra low latency to support the Internet of Things ideology. It has been reported that Nokia and BSNL will conduct joint 5G demonstrations throughout India.
Nokia’s collaboration with Airtel is mainly aimed at transforming the internet speed to 5G in a cost effective and reliable manner. This joint venture is aimed at promoting a suitable environment to propagate 5G technology in India. Sanjay Malik, head of India market Nokia had earlier said,” In line with the Indian government’s thrust to boost the digital infrastructure to enhance economic growth, Nokia is delighted to partner with BSNL in the development of the 5G ecosystem in the Indian market. We will leverage our global experience in 5G related industry projects and collaborations to enable BSNL to evolve their networks for the programmable world.”
Despite this promising start towards the advent of 5G technology, experts have suggested that it could take quite a while for this to become mainstream in India. 5G is expected to become the next big thing in the Indian telecom market, with internet speeds higher than the current 4G speed and will also have an ultra low latency network.
The advent of 5G does not aim solely at empowering smartphones but is looking to extend it’s domain to various other disciplines. Some of the more prominent areas of interest are the Iot, and the smart cities idea. Apart from Nokia, Samsung and Huawei are also making large scale investments in this technology.
