Being an Indian , it fills our heart with utter pride and joy to see the National Flag unfurling on the eve of Republic Day. The day, 26th of January brings out the patriot in all of us, and not everyone of us know the importance of this auspicious day.
So here are some facts that we are sharing with you all , making this Republic Day even more significant than previous ones:
#1 – January 26, 1930 – Was Earlier Celebrated As India’s Independence Day Or Also Called As Purna Swaraj Day. It Is The Day When India Decided To Fight For Its Complete Freedom!
#2 – After Achieving Freedom On August 15 , 1947, Our Freedom Fighters & Leaders Wanted The 26th Of January To Be Remembered In History And Hence Was Coincided With Day Of Swaraj.
#3 – The 1st ever Republic Day Was Celebrated On 26 January 1950. Three Years After We Got Independence From The British Colonial Rule.
#4 – Republic Day Celebrations Are Usually A 3 Day Long Affair, With Celebrations Ending On January 29 With ‘Beating Retreat Ceremony’.
#5 – The 1st Ever Republic Day Parade Was Held In 1955 At Rajpath , New Delhi.
#6 – Christian Song Named ‘Abide With Me’ Is Always Played During The Republic Day Parade. It Seems That This Song Was One Of The Favourites Of Father Of Our Nation , Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
#7 – India’s Constitution Was Written On This Day , Making It More Significant. And The Constitution Of India Is The Longest In The Entire World. It Has A Total Of 448 Articles. This Is Written Both In English & Hindi.
#8 – Drafting The Constitution For India Was A Herculean Task In Itself, Dr. BR Ambedkar Took Nearly 2 Years & 11 Months To Draft Our Indian Constitution.
#9 – Our Leaders Took Best Aspects From The Constitutions Of Other Countries. Concept Such As Liberty , Equality , Fraternity Came From The French Constitution Whereas The 5 Year Plans Came From The USSR Constitution.
#10 – Before The Indian Constitution Coming Into Effect , India Followed The British Government’s ‘Government Of India Act 1935’.
#11 – Majority Of National Awards & Recognition Such As The ‘Bharat Ratna’, ‘Padma Bhushan’, ‘Kirti Chakra’ Are Awarded During The Republic Day Ceremony By The Indian President.
Having said these facts , Republic Day becomes one of the most important day in the Indian History , it is the day when the Constitution of India came into effect and has strings of national activities and patriotism attached to it!
