Zomato, the food App is hacked, the company has announced on Thursday that the user database of 17 million was stolen by the attackers.
While the company says the attackers were only able to steal the database with name and email address but not passwords, as the passwords were encrypted, also the company confirms that the payment gateway is safe to use.
However the company has asked the users to change the passwords right away to stay safe, also do not use the same passwords for multiple sites, using same passwords for multiple sites is not a good idea.
The Company had a major cyber attack, from over 120 million databases,17 million databases were stolen, the company officially announced in their blog post "Important note - payment related information on Zomato is stored separately from this (stolen) data in a highly secure PCI Data Security Standard (DSS) compliant vault. No payment information or credit card data has been stolen/leaked."
The Company says it's investigating the issue and senses that its caused due to an internal security breach, they sense that this has been done by an employee or by someone who stole the account of the employee.
"Over the next couple of days and weeks, we’ll be actively working to plug any more security gaps that we find in our systems. We’ll be further enhancing security measures for all user information stored in our database
A layer of authorization will be added for internal teams having access to this data to avoid the possibility of any human breach." the Blog says
The Company says they regret the disruption created.
