Market Police registered a case against the parents of 13 year old Aaradhana , who succumbed to the pressure of fasting for 68 days and died due to sudden cardiac arrest.
The victim died due to sudden heart complications on October 2 , she fasted for 68 days as per Jain rituals , as her father was suffering some losses in business. To recuperate this , some Jain spiritual leader asked their daughter to fast for such an extended period of time.
Now the case has been registered by Anuradha Rao , who is the President of Balala Hakkula Sangham (Child Rights Organisation).
According to the local police , this case has been registered under the Section 304 which is Part 2 – Culpable Homicide not amounting to murder of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act which is charge for offences by custodians of children against parental and other pressures.
She was just a Class 8th student , studying at Francis School , when the police began the probe after the BHS alleged a complaint that her family members and some community elders made the teenager fast for 68 days as per the Jain faith which they called “Tapasya” during the “Choumas” period.
So Anuradha Rao , alleged that she has succumbed to the pressures in the name of rituals , a certain action must be taken in order to avoid such case of murder under the name of rituals , which is very saddening to see in such a modern era!
