    At the age of 8, when other kids play or go to schools, Mehendi Hassan of Dhaka, Bangladesh if purportedly forced to stay inside his home because of a very rare kind of skin disease which is slowly and gradually turning him into STONE!

    Mehendi Hassan, suffers from a rare disease which makes his skin look like a stone. In fact, his face appears normal like anyone else, but the rest of his body is covered in the hard, flaky  scales and even a slight touch could cause him unbearable pain making him carrying out his daily life an impossible task!

    Kids at his age, play in the park, in their friend’s home and even get themselves educated at schools, but Bangladeshi little boy Mehendi Hassan has to keep himself at his home because his stone like appearance terrifies other children and it seems that villagers pass on abusive comments about him whenever he goes out.

    Mehendi Hassan was born healthy but showed his 1st sign of this rare ailment when he was just 12 days old. Mehendi Hassan’s parents Abul Kalam Azad and Jahanara Begum noticed the rashes and ignored it thinking it was the mosquito bites. But the rashes spread eventually and Mehendi Hassan’s disease has even baffled doctors, who are now speechless on how to treat him.

    Mehendi Hassan’s father Abul Kalam Azad says, “No doctor is able to diagnose my son’s disease.” Abul Kalam Azad is a van driver by profession. And whatever Hassan’s father earn from driving, he spends that entire amount of his son’s treatment. But the family has stop Hassan’s treatment since his condition has so far have gone undiagnosed by every doctor.

    Mehendi Hassan’s mother Jahanara Begum says, “Other children detest Hassan. People look at him with disgust and find him filthy because of this skin disease. Everyone hates him, no one talks to him, no one likes to even see him or eat in his presence. Hassan get so upset with this, that is why I keep him at home.”

    His mother adds, “He cries out in pain. As a mother I feel devastated to see my child suffer! I always tell Hassan that Allah has made him different and with his own will, I wish he will also be able to study, and live a normal and healthy life like others.”
