Yet in another milestone reached by Telangana and Microsoft , it is confirmed that the Microsoft India will under take a project in Telangana on the use of White Spaces or will make use of the un – utilized television spectrum for providing the interent connectivity.
This is just one of the main components from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which has been signed today by Telangana and Microsoft . They will collectively work in the areas of health care , education and agriculture.
Not only this , Telangana will also seek the technology major’s help in upgrading and boosting its State Data Centre to a fully cloud enabled facility.
Microsoft India (R &D ) Managing Director (MD) Anil Bhansali , said that “White spaces will help erase the dark spots in regard to the internet connectivity issues. We are now using the unused TV spectrum to provide the last mile Internet connectivity in some of the areas. So by this the State government is now trying to expand this growth to all the households.”
Pilot projects like these have already been started in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra , where he opines “there is no restriction of taking up such pilot projects , as the Government of India has come up with the necessary rules and regulations in usage of White Spaces!”
So with this MoU , Microsoft will help the Telangana Government to explore various options like cloud computing , machine learning and several mobile based solutions in order to improve its citizen services , education , health care as well as agriculture to an extent.
The company is also ready to set up the T- Works hard ware incubator for the technology start ups apart from collaborating with the Telangana Government in the sector of skill development.
