In a stringent rules in the field of education , the Central Government , New Delhi has strictly issued a statement saying that a student need to secure 75 per cent marks in order to grab a seat in prestigious National Institute of Technology (NIT).

We were well aware of certain changes being done by the government in terms of eligibility conditions to permit admissions in the NIT , and now students hailing from General Category who score below the set 75 % will not be eligible to join NITs irrespective how good their score is in the JEE Mains. And this changes will be in effect from the next academic year itself.

An official said that , “99 % of students who take admission in the NIT have a score below 75 % in their Board Exams. We know it will not affect candidates , as till now we have received very few concerns over it , so we will be going with this decision.”

So with the next academic year , the NITs are following the eligibility footsteps by the IITs , that is the eligibility criteria for a student to have a seat in IITs is 75 % in their Class 12th Exams for the General Category.

On checking the official website of the JEE Mains it says , “there is no weightage of the 12th Class Marks for calculating the ranks in JEE Mains. But in order to qualify for the admission round in any of the IITs / NITs / IIITs and any other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE Advanced and JEE Mains ranks must secure at least 75 % in their Class 12th Examinations or be in the top 20 percentile in their 12th Class Examination conducted by their respective Baords. And for the SC / ST Category students , the qualifying marks is 65 % in their Class 12th Exams.”

So there are total 31 NITs which offer admissions to about 18,000 students every year , which is higher than the admissions offered by the IITs , the latter admits just 10,000 students into their campus at present.

The online application will start from the 1st of December , 2016 and the last date to submit the application is January 2 , 2017.
