The Cyberabad Police on Wednesday has booked a journalist for unauthorisedly entering into the premises of University of Hyderabad (UoH) on the 1st death anniversary of the Dalit Scholar Rohith Vemula. The journalist named Kunal S, works with an English Magazine and was booked on the charge of trespass and other relevant sections of the IPC.

The complaint was registered by the Varsity Security Officials said the Deputy Commissioner of the Police (Madhapur Zone) P.Vishwa Prasad. The complainant accused Kunal S of sneaking into the vasity and covering the protest by a group of UoH students in memory of 1st death anniversary of Rohith Vemula.

Later on the DCP said , “We’re investigating into the matter.” However , the accused Kunal S said that he went inside the campus on some official duty that is for collection of information in regard with the protests after being invited by the University Faculty Member.

Here is what Kunal S said , “II was accosted by the UoH Security Personnel and was later taken to the Cyberabad Commisionerate by the local police where an ACP questioned me for several hours before letting me off.”

He also said that he entered the varsity after showing his valid Identity Card and complained that the Varsity was ‘falsely’ claiming that he was not possessing the Visitor Pass for the entrance in the campus.

In view of the programs planned by the JAC for Social Justice at the UoH to mark the 1st death anniversary of Rohit Vemula today , the University on Tuesday said that it has not issued any such permission to hold these kind of activities.

A circular from the UoH reads that, “The University cannot provide any platform for outsiders to participate and hold activities called by the insiders of outsiders when there is no such permission for the same.”

UoH has a ban on allowing outsiders inside the campus and hence the University will not entertain any outsiders either directly or indirectly entering into the Campus. As the High Court has already barred the entry of all the outsiders into the University Campus.

University of Hyderabad came into spot light after the Dalit Research Scholar Rohith Vemula allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room on January 17 last year.
