After Amartya Sen , Nalanda University Chancellor George Yeo Quits Too !

    Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen’s exit from the prestigious Nalanda University , Bihar , now its Vice Chancellor George Yeo has also quit from his post. According to the reports , George Yeo who had allegedly planned an attack on the autonomy of the University said that, “these changes were made under the leadership of the ruling Chancellor without any consultation from me.” In a decade long association of Amartya Sen with the prestigious Nalanda University which ended when the government constituted a different governing body for this top rated Insititute. With this the renowned economists Dr. Amartya Sen’s term came to an end in the month of July last year. But he remained as a member of its Governing Board until recently.


    President Pranab Mukherjee , visitor of the University have cleared the air about the reconstitution of Governing Board. And said that NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya , Professor Arvind Sharma , President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations Lokesh Chandra and Faculty of Religious Studies , McGill University , Canada have been appointed as the members of the newly constituted Governing Board.

    The idea to revive this prestigious Nalanda University was first suggested by the former President APJ Abdul Kalam in the year 2005. The University is now being built near the remains of the historic university and Dr. Amartya Sen has been involved with the project since 2007 , not only this a number of countries have also shown their interest in the involvement in the project.
