We live in a world where force seems to be the choice to get things done. The force, more often than not, is seen in a negative role, and hence makes humans do the most gruesome of things. This very force, that makes a human think that he stands far more superior to the ones around him/her, is usually the root cause of all evil.

Don’t agree? Let me put it this way. The number of sexual harassments in the country in the last decade has day after day increased to a level that it is intolerable. Angry Citizens who are brothers, sisters, friends, and anybody else walk out on the street with a candle lit to honor the woman who just succumbed to her injuries. But is that all we can do? May be no one can help when someone has to face such a situation.

Is it really? No, says Manisha Mohan, a research assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. Manisha Mohan has developed a safety device, that isn’t common, like the ones we already have, e.g. Pepper spray, stun guns, etc., but is unusual in the most sensible way. Presenting, the ’smart sticker’ sensor, that can help you ladies prevent sexual assault or rape in real time by alerting the people you trust.

How does it work?

The sensor on the device known as Intrepid has been programmed in such a way that it sends a message to the victim’s safety circle, thus alarming them of such a situation. What the sensor does is that it detects signs of an assault, when the victim is unconscious, struggling to fight the assaulter or conscious and yet in trouble. This device, the Intrepid, works in both Active and Passive mode and has the ability to set off loud alarms by the touch of a button. The device, according to Manisha Mohan, can be attached to any piece of clothing. And to take things up a notch, she says that it can be washed too.

Here is how the Smart Sticker works

Hoping that no woman ever goes through the pain, this device invented by Manisha Mohan, definitely seems to be the only hope for women in this current day when the number of sexual assaults and rapes have increased.

An Apology

Dear Women across the globe, this is an apology. Men like me are sorry that we have come to a point where you have to wear and use technology that will help you prevent rape and sexual assault. Men like me are sorry that you are being blamed for being assaulted. Men like me are sorry that a woman had to invent something to make women safer. We are sorry. But if a time comes when something of this nature is happening, I’d jump in and do everything in my ability to keep you safe, or at the least, give you enough time to run away.
