Telangana MLA Pay To Get Hiked

The salaries of TELANGANA MLAs, MLCs and those holding cabinet-rank posts are just about to get increased .

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday addressed at the need to hike the representatives pay structure looking into to the  increase of  cost of living .

The CM has asked TS Legislature secretary Raja Sadaram to work out the modalities before finalising the proposal by the Amenities Committee of the Legislature that comprises all party leaders, headed by Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary.

In Telangana, all ministers,  including the Assembly speaker, deputy speaker, Council chairman and deputy chairman, government whips and leader of opposition get cabinet-rank salary. All other MLAs and MLCs get a salary of  Rs 95,000 per month breaking down the amount  Rs 12,000 is monthly salary and Rs 83,000 is given  towards allowances like constituency and vehicle expenses. And apart from this Rs 25,000 is paid as accommodation allowance.

The CM felt the  salary of Rs 95,000 is not sufficient MLA’s as they are  working  on both political and non-political works and have to go on tours in their constituency, district and the state capital, and adding to this few of them have assisstants and  bear expenses on PAs, gunmen, drivers etc.

Apart from the  ministers, Speaker, Council Chairman, Dy Speaker, Deputy Chairman, Government Whips and Leaders of the Opposition, who are at present being paid Rs 2,35,000 (including allowances). All this put together, the expenditure on the government is Rs 14.94 crore a year. This is just 0.001 percent of the `1.15 lakh crore budget that these MLAs and MLCs are passing in the legislative bodies, the CM felt but noted that there was a wrong perception of the salaries of MLAs and MLCs ”  Mr Chandrasekhar Rao opined

THE CM  says  the legislators cannot meet the present day raising expenses unless their salary is hiked to Rs 3 lakh per month. He asked the Legislature secretary to work out the modalities and also study the pattern of salary structure that exists in other legislatures, including the recent hike of MLAs’ salary by the Delhi government.
