Marathi film ‘Court’ beats Baahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan in the Oscar race.

The Lunch box story goes in this way  Lonely housewife Ila (Nimrat Kaur) decides to try adding some spice to her stale marriage by preparing a special lunch for her neglectful husband. Unfortunately, the delivery goes astray and winds up in the hands of Saajan (Irrfan Khan), an irritable widower. Curious about her husband’s lack of response, Ila adds a note to the next day’s lunchbox, and thus begins an unusual friendship in which Saajan and Ila can talk about their joys and sorrows without ever meeting in person

2)In 2015 Marathi film “Killa” is Selected For Oscar

Killa is a Indian Marathi drama film directed by Avinash Arun. The film revolves around an 11-year-old child who has a difficult time coping with the death of his father.

The 17-member jury headed by filmmaker Amol Palekar has picked the Marathi language Court as India’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars next year, Film Federation of India secretary-general Suparn Sen told news agency IANS. Court, directed by Chaitanye Tamhane making his debut, won this year’s National Award for Best Feature Film.

“At every critical moment of the film’s journey, we have felt that it has given us more than we can ever imagine. Once again, this has come as a genuine surprise to both Vivek Gomber(actor and producer of this film) and me,(Chaitanye  Tamhane – Director) said in a statement, reports IANS.

Court Rating given by NDTV: 4.5/5 (this is very unfortunate one)

‘Court’ was selected from a shortlist of 30 films by a Film Federation of India jury headed by film-maker Amol Palekar. Marathi film-maker Ravi Jadhav, who was part of the jury, made the announcement on Facebook with this post.

Court is a collection of real stories:

Court tells the story of an ageing folk musician and political activist who is accused by the state for causing the suicide of a manual scavenger through his ‘inflammatory’ songs. The movie subtly hits out at the government on its persecution of those who raise uncomfortable questions through laws like UAPA (the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act).

Court got Two awards:

The film won two coveted awards – the Horizons award for Best Film which carries a 100,000 $ cash prize and the Lion of the Future award for a Debut Film – at the Venice International Film festival in 2014 among others.

Marathi Films In Oscar race:

‘Court’ is the third Marathi film after Sandeep Sawant’s Shwaas (Breath) in 2004, and Paresh Mokashi’s Harishchandrachi Factory (Harischandra’s Factory) made on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke in 2009 to be selected as India’s entry to the Academy Awards.
