Cricketer Sreesanth Joins BJP: Ex-Cricketer S Sreesanth joined the BJP and the party has fielded him from Thiruvananthapuram seat for Kerala Assembly elections to be held on May 16. The announcement on Sreesanth was taken after a nearly four-hour-long meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) of BJP.
33-year-old Sreesanth said his name has been cleared by the court in a match-fixing case and he is, therefore, not concerned about any Opposition attack on him regarding the controversy.
BJP has already announced 22 candidates from Kerala in its first list. BJP also announced the first list of 54 candidates for the Tamil Nadu polls and said a second list would be issued after talks with IJK and NJP fructify in the coming days.
“The discussion took place in the meeting keeping Kerala’s best interest in mind… Sreesanth will be contesting from Thiruvananthapuram seat,” Union Health minister JP Nadda said.
“Whenever I thought about joining politics I always thought about doing so with the BJP,” the cricketer said minutes after his introduction.
BJP has fielded several lawyers, a filmmaker, engineers and trade union activists from Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
