When is Holi 2017, Sunday or Monday ? No More Confusion !


    Holi is the first major Hindu Festival of the year. This time there is some confusion in the air regarding when it is officially off for the festival of colors.

    The festival of Holi is celebrated on the day after the full moon in early March every year. In India the Spring Festival is known by HOLI itself. Holi is celebrated on the Phalgun Purnima (or Pooranmashi, Full Moon) in the month of Phalgun according to the Hindu calendar.

    The festival begins on the night of the full moon, i.e on Holika Dahan people burn logs of wood to symbolize victory of good over evil and to symbolize the destruction of the wicked Holika, after whom the festival was named.and observe Holi Pooja. The following morning, the streets get filled with people running, shouting, giggling and splashing colors all over.

    The festival mainly started to welcome the spring season. Holi in India is a festival of fun and frolic and has been associated with the immortal love of Lord Krishna and Radha. The twin cities of Vrindavan and Mathura celebrate Holi for an entire span of 16 days, these cities are said to be the most affectionate ones to Lord Krishna. However, each region celebrates it according to their culture and traditions. Different states celebrate it according to their own customs.

    In 2017, Holi is listed as a holiday on March 13th in: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarah, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, while on March 12th in: Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal.

    However, Holi shall be celebrated on 13th March nationwide and Monday is to be observed as a holiday for the same. Happy Holi to you all !!!
