Unlike Chetan Bhagat’s Half Girlfriend, the readers may like his new fiction One Indian Girl. This book is basically on feminism and women empowerment. The story revolves around Radhika Mehta, an investment banker at Goldman Sachs. Radhika is an educated, sophisticated, smart, intelligent and a rich person.
She had two boyfriends, one in New York and the other at Hong Kong. Radhika’s parents are those typical Indian parents who continuously force their daughter to get married. Since Radhika makes a lot of money (nearly half a million per annum) , Her mother is worried that no good Indian guy would agree to marry her because Radhika would be earning higher salary than her husband.
On the other hand, Radhika is a very strong person, who needs money, love, fame, family and freedom. One Indian Girl has to follow the stereotypes that are prevailing in the society from years. Radhika is shown as One Indian Girl who has the courage to break all the stereotypes and live her life the way she wants.
Overall the plot of this book is interesting. The starting and the end of this book would interest the reader but it gets a bit boring in the middle. One could relate Radhika’s breakup in New York with the song New York City by Chainsmokers. The book may seem predictable somewhere in the middle and readers may not be interested further, but trust me this book does not have a typical Chetan Bhagat ending where everyone is happy-go-lucky. The ending has a nice twist. One can read the book as it is quite different from other books that Chetan Bhagat has written.
