Google Inc. has confirmed that Gmail will stop working on Chrome Browser Version 53 & below, from February 8, 2017. And those Gmail Users who are still using the Windows XP and Windows Vista are the one who more likely to be affected because the v49 (Version 49) was the only last released version which supported such Operating Systems. As already announced in April 2015 and in November 2015 that such systems are no longer maintained by the Microsoft, so Google strongly encourage its users to migrate to much safer, secure and supported systems.
In fact, to make the user realise that they are still using the old version, Google will be showing a banner at the top of the Gmail Interface for its users who are still using the Google Chrome Browser v53 & below, in order to encourage users to upgrade to the latest version of Chrome, which is currently on the Version 55. The Chrome Browser v55 do contain several security updates which are of high significance.
What If Users Continue To Use Chrome Browser v53 & Below?
Gmail will continue doing its work on Chrome Browser v53 and below till the end of this year 2017. And if you continue to use the much older versions of Chrome Browser now that support has been ended. With this, Gmail will become more vulnerable to security risks & the users may not get access to the new features and bugfixes! The users who remain on Chrome v53 & below would not be redirected to the basic HTML Version of Gmail as early as Dec, 2017.
So What Is Recommended?
If you are using the Chrome Browser, then we strongly recommend you to keep the browser updated to the latest version of Chrome. Depending on what Operating System you use, you may need to migrate from that to a supported system to avail the latest version and features.
