The four new elements had earned a permanent place on the periodic table. Named 113,115,117 and 118. The names during discovery were,
Ununtrium (Uut).
Ununpentium (Uup).
Ununseptium (Uus).
Ununoctium (Uuo).
Now they have new names.Researchers from the US, Russia, and Japan were honoured for the discovery of these new elements.
As told by the IUPAC, any new element must be named after:-
· A mythological concept.
· A mineral.
· A place.
· A property of the element.
· A scientist.
Here are the New names:-
· Nihonium -Nh, Z =113,
· Moscovium – Mc, Z = 115,
· Tennessine – Z = 117, and
· Oganesson – Z = 118.
If no one complains, the names will then get formal approval.
Why so long to get discovered ??
Unlike gold, iron, and aluminium, these new elements are not to be seen in the nature. They are some synthetic elements that can only be created in the lab, The teams behind them didn’t have an idea or a chance to get a proper look before they came across into something else entirely.
Dreams are coming true. Let’s hope for more such fabulous discoveries in the near future.
