James Cameron Avatar 2 Sequel Release Date

The release date was revealed to be a couple of years away, as previously reported by the Inquisitr, almost giving the sequel a production time similar to that of the original, a film over a decade in production. The first Avatar had been released to theaters around the same time as M. Night Shyamalan’s critically derided film adaptation of the cartoon of the same name, leading to his film being called The Last Airbender instead. The upcoming sequels to James Cameron’s mostly animated blockbuster are said to be coming much more quickly after the Avatar 2 release date in 2017.

The much-awaited sequel to the most popular futuristic sci-fi epic has been under production since 2014. But, the fans have been getting their regular updates through various plot speculations and cast rumours. As of now, we have heard that “Avatar 2” will have a prison theme and focus on new creatures, underwater sceneries and the ecosystem of Pandora.

And as far as cast rumours are concerned, we already know that Michelle Rodriguez is not returning for the sequel. “They’re bringing back a lot of other characters. I know Sigourney Weaver’s coming back and the guy who played the bad guy, Stephen Lang, is coming back. But yeah, I’m not gonna be in it,” said Rodriguez.

There were also reports that the film will bring back the character of Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), who died in the first movie. The report said that there’s no confirmation on how this will be included in the script, but chances are that Augustine will have a new avatar.

Avatar 2 will be released in December of 2017 with the remaining films to follow in December 2018 and December 2019. The original 2009 film is the top-grossing movie of all time with $2.782 billion at the worldwide box office.
