Hoping to save the world and rescue his true love, a defiant mortal named Bek (Brenton Thwaites) forms an unlikely alliance with the powerful god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Gods of Egypt Movie Review & Story Plot

With Hollywood in the midst of a fantasy boom, it’s baffling that gifted Australian director Alex Proyas? (Dark City) hasn’t found more regular employment. His first feature in seven years, Gods of Egypt, is an uneven but impressive fantasy epic, set in a mythical Ancient Egypt where gods and mortals live side by side (Proyas, himself, comes from a Greek-Egyptian background). The movie also released in India , in regional languages like Telugu, Hindi also in English.

Mortal hero Bek teams with the god Horus in an alliance against Set, the merciless god of darkness who has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. Movie studio Lionsgate had once hoped that its swords-and-sandals epic “Gods of Egypt” would launch a franchise and help fill the void left by the end of its lucrative “Hunger Games” series. That doesn’t look very likely .The action-packed, special-effects-driven picture, starring Gerard Butler, is expected to gross roughly $15 million in ticket sales during its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada, according to people who have reviewed pre-release audience surveys.

Gods of Egypt is flawed in obvious ways. The dialogue blends with a generic modern American idiom (“Such a big day for the family, you must be proud”). Performances are weak, with the exceptions of Gerard Butler, an effective villain in the burly man-of-action mould, and Chadwick Boseman, whose campy turn as an imperious God of Wisdom supplies welcome comic relief. If the brains trust at Marvel Studios have any sense, they’ll sign him up to direct their next Thor film. Come to think of it, I wouldn’t mind seeing him tackle one of the Star Wars sequels as well.
