Aamir Khan to play India’s First Astronaut Rakesh Sharma in Biopic !


Recently, we came to know about Aamir’s next project, ‘Thugs of Hindustan’, that will also feature legendary Amitabh Bachchan Now, the reports are all confirmed that Aamir Khan will be playing the role of India’s first astronaut Rakesh Sharma. The shooting of the film will start after ‘Thugs of Hindustan’. 

Siddharth Roy Kapur has approached Aamir Khan for the film. The film is expected to release in 2018. The film will be launch under the banner of RK Films (Roy Kapur Films) under the direction of  Mahesh Mathai.

Till now, there is no confirmation on the name of the film. The film was titled as ‘Sare Jahan Se Achcha’. But the report suggests that the film is re-titled as ‘Salute’. The biopic will be produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Aamir.

It is known by almost every Indian that when former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi asked Rakesh, how India looked from the space, he said, “Saare jahan se achcha.”

Rakesh Sharma is a former Indian Air Force pilot and was the first Indian to travel in space. He flew aboard Soyuz T-11, launched April 2, 1984, as part of the Intercosmos program. He was awarded Ashok Chakra by the government of India. He was also honored with Hero of the Soviet Union. He is an alumnus of the 35th National Defence Academy. Rakesh Sharma joined the Indian Air Force in 1970 as a test pilot. He flew Mikoyan-Gurevich (MiG) aircraft starting from 1971. He was later appointed as the Squadron Leader and pilot of the Indian Air Force. On 20th September, 1982, he became a cosmonaut and go into space as part of a joint program between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Soviet Intercosmos space program.
