Mirchi Bajji is a popular street side snack which is super delicious. For all the folks who love eating the famous Indian snack Mirchi Bajji, I am here with the recipe which is spicy, a bit tangy and a mouth- watering snack Mirchi Bajji. I am pretty sure that people love eating this anytime be it winter or any other day. The snack is made differently by people, the filling varies from state to state and some people prepare this snack without filling as well.
Let’s get on to method on how to prepare this recipe-
Spicy Mirchi Bajji with Coconut filling
Preparation Time- 20 minutes
Cook time- 8-10 minutes
Ingredients
- 8 green chillies
- Coconut Mixture
- ½ cup fresh grated coconut
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- ¼ tsp cumin seeds
- 2 tbsp Bengal gram/ chana dal
- 20 chopped cashewnuts
- 1 tbsp tamarind paste
- Salt as per taste
Batter-
- 10 tbsp Chickpea flour
- 2 tbsp rice flour
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- Turmeric powder- pinch
- Asafoetida – pinch
- Soda bicarbonate- pinch
- Salt as per taste
Instructions-
- Wash and dry the green chillies
- Make a slit on one side of the chilli and in case to cut down the spice level, you can remove the seeds and veins from it.
For preparation of coconut mixture-
- Take a pan, add Bengal gram and chopped cashews in to it.
- Roast the Bengal gram and cashews for two minutes.
- Add cumin seeds and coconut and continue to roast until the ingredients in it turns brown.
- Just a minute before switching off the gas, add chilli powder to the mixture. Note- adding the chilli powder at last because the powder tends to burn very fast.
- Switch off the gas and let the mixture gets cool.
- In a mixer, add coconut mixture a table spoon of tamarind paste and salt as required so as to make sure the ingredients is combined well by grinding it.
- After blending the mixture, keep it aside
- Now take the green chillies, add the coconut mixture inside the slit of the chillies.
How to make Batter for Mirchi Bajji-
- Take a bowl and except baking soda add all the ingredients i.e,
- 10 tbsp Chickpea flour, 2 tbsp rice flour, 1 tsp chilli powder, pinch turmeric powder, pinch Asafoetida and Salt as per taste.
- Add water to the batter mixture but be cautious while adding water in the batter mixture bowl. Mix the batter mixture well.
- Make sure the consistency of the batter should not be too thick or not too watery.
- Before frying add bicarbonate soda and mix everything together
Frying
- Take a wide pan, add enough oil in to it and switch on the gas and turn it to medium heat.
- Now take the chillies, dip in to the batter by holding its head and ensure to coat all the sides of chilly with batter and put in to the frying pan.
- Cook the bajji for few minutes until it turns golden brown
- Take out the bajji’s in to tissue to wipe out the extra oil from it.
- Your mirchi bajji is ready to serve. You can eat this by dipping it in ketchup or pudina chutney.
