29 year old singer shan found dead in her apartment


Singer and music composer Shan Johnson, daughter of late music director Johnson Master, was found dead in her flat in Chennai on February 5, police said on Friday.

The cops revealed that Ms Johnson, 29, had come to her flat after completing a recording session and was scheduled to go for another assignment on Friday..

Neighbours said that they had seen Shan going to her flat after parking the scooter, around 9 PM on Thursday. Her mother Rani  was staying at a relative’s house nearby. Shan and Rani had planned to go to Kochi in the flight at 10 AM on saturday .  After repeated calls on her mobile were met with no response, her mother and another close relative went to her flat in Ashok Nagar and found her dead. In her apartment at Kodambakkam, in Chennai around 11.30 AM. The cause of death is unknown and Other details are awaited.

Police has registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body to Royapettah general hospital for postmortem.

Shan’s mortal remains will be brought to her residence in Thrissur on Saturday noon.

Shan, who completed her BCom from Stella Maris College, Chennai, was a member of two western music bands. She worked in Mysuru until the death of her father ,Shan’s father Johnson  was a renowned and respected music composer in Malayalam film industry, he had composed songs for more than 300 Malayalam films and won several state and national awards.  He died on August 18, 2011  and her brother Ren Johnson was killed in a bike accident in February, 2012. Later, she quit the job and turned to music industry.


Ms Johnson, a trained Carnatic and western musician, was best known for her work as a singer in the Malayalam films Praise The Lord and Thira, and for composing the soundtrack of His Name Is John. She had also penned the Hindi lyrics of the song “Raavumaayave” for the upcoming Malayalam film “Vettah” starring Kunchacko Boban and Manju Warrier. “Yet another beautiful song by Shaan Rahman for which i had the opportunity to pen few lines in Hindi. It’s for the upcoming Malayalam film ‘Vettah’ starring Kunchacko Boban and Manju Warrier,” wrote Shan while sharing the song on her Facebook page on Thursday evening.
