Compressed Air Car : A compressed air car is a compressed air vehicle that uses compressed air as fuel. The car will be running only on air or maybe a hybrid car(powered by diesel or petrol or electric car).

A compressed air car is having a compressed air tank with a pressure of 30MPA. Compressed air will be used as an ignition instead of any other fuel like diesel or petrol.

There have been prototype cars since 1920’s with compressed air used in torpedo propulsion.

Compressed Air Car ; Advantages, Disadvantages !!

Advantages of Compressed Air Car :

1. It uses no gasoline or other bio-carbon based fuel.
2. Compressed air engines reduce the cost of vehicle production because there is no need to build a cooling system, spark plugs or starter motor.
3. Reduction or elimination of hazardous chemicals such as gasoline or battery acids/metals.
4. Pollution free and easy to manufacture.
5. Very low cost and fuel efficient (compressed air).
6. Low maintenance cost.

Disadvantages of the Compressed Air Car :

1.Limited storage capacities of the compressed air tank.
2. A tank containing 30MPA compressed air is risky and dangerous.
3. Low boot space, as compressed air car, will be having a compressed air tank.
4. Running the vehicle on compressed air will be requiring the provision for filling the compressed air in the tank.

Compressed Air Car Uses/Applications :

1. Easy for transportation within the organizations or manufacturing plants.
2. They offer greater power density (a smaller pneumatic motor can provide the same amount of power as a larger electric motor), do not require an auxiliary speed controller (adding to its compactness), generate less heat, and can be used in more volatile atmospheres as they do not require electric power and do not create sparks.
They can be loaded to stop with full torque without any damage.
